We are currently seeking to recruit a reliable and compassionate Housekeeper/Kitchen Assistant to join our team and help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for clients, staff and visitors.
The Role
You will support both the housekeeping and kitchen teams, helping to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across the service. Duties include general cleaning of communal areas, bedrooms and bathrooms, preparing rooms for new residents, supporting kitchen cleaning and stock rotation and ensuring all areas meet health and safety standards.
Scope of Responsibilities
Kitchen Assistant Duties:
- Receive deliveries, check stock against delivery notes and store items correctly.
- Rotate stock to ensure older stock is used first and new stock is stored appropriately.
- Dispose of waste food safely in line with waste disposal procedures.
- Wash, dry and put away tea towels, dishcloths and uniforms.
- Wash, dry and store kitchen utensils, pots and pans used during food preparation.
- Clean fridges, hob, oven, hot cupboard and work surfaces using approved sanitising solutions.
- Clean kitchen floors where required and safe to do so.
- Empty recycling, waste, cardboard and glass bins.
- Report any defective or unsafe equipment to the Chef on duty.
Housekeeping Duties:
General domestic duties, including but not limited to:
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness in communal areas, bedrooms, offices and bathrooms.
- Cleaning tasks including dusting, glass cleaning, vacuuming, mopping and bin emptying.
- Preparing bedrooms for new occupants, including cleaning and changing bed linen.
- Undertaking deep cleaning tasks as required, including floor scrubbing and higher-level cleaning.
Hours & Working Pattern
This is a part-time role with an alternating weekly pattern. The post is primarily offered as a combined Housekeeper/Kitchen Assistant role. However, we are happy to consider applications from candidates wishing to work exclusively as a Housekeeper or exclusively as a Kitchen Assistant, depending on availability and service needs.
Housekeeping (Domestic) Hours:
Week One:
- 5 hours per day, Monday to Wednesday
- Preferred hours: 8.00am – 10.30am (flexible)
Week Two:
- 5 hours per day, Monday to Friday
- Preferred hours: 8.00am – 10.30am (flexible)
Kitchen Assistant Hours (every other week):
- 3 hours per day, 2 days every other week, preferably Thursday and Friday (hours flexible)
This role can be combined into one post or split between two people, for example:
- One person working Monday to Wednesday (7.5 hours per week), and
- Another person working Thursday and Friday (5 hours in week one, 10 hours in week two).

About You
You will be organised, reliable and able to work both independently and as part of a team. You will have a respectful, non-judgmental approach and understand the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries in a residential rehabilitation setting. Previous experience in cleaning, housekeeping or kitchen work is essential.
Person Specification
- Experience in housekeeping, cleaning or kitchen work (desirable)
- Basic understanding of hygiene, cleanliness and safe working practices.
- Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation.
- Ability to follow procedures and work safely.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate, respectful and non-judgemental approach.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Reliable, flexible and professional in approach to work.
- Willingness to complete mandatory training, including health and safety and safeguarding.
- Commitment to safeguarding adults and raising concerns appropriately.
