How might your first week in rehabilitation go?

The imminent admission into a residential rehab centre can be extremely daunting and nerve-wracking and it’s very common to be feeling a range of emotions about the ‘unknowns’ of the journey ahead. We understand these feelings and know that the day of admission and subsequent days as a patient are outside of the comfort zone for many.

As part of a therapeutic assignment, one patient has summarised how they felt during their first week at Broadway Lodge, stating “Getting accepted into Broadway Lodge made me feel hopeful and optimistic about the recovery process which I had been fighting for 9 months to obtain. I was respected by the staff which I had never experienced before. It was welcoming and I was valued by all the other peers.”

Our close knit team of specialist staff have created a warm, safe, open and caring environment which is engrained in the culture and feeds into anyone who stays with us. This results in new patients being welcomed with open arms by others and an abundance of peer support is given. To help settle them into life at Broadway, we always match a new patient with an existing patient who is able to provide help and guidance – we call them ‘buddies’.

Holistic therapies are also available throughout treatment to help calm the mind and relax the body and can be particularly effective for anyone who feels anxious.
