Role Overview
We are seeking a male counsellor to join our aftercare team as part of the North Somerset Recovery Community Support Project by Broadway Lodge, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. This role will facilitate our weekly men’s group therapy sessions — a safe, informal, and supportive space for men aged 18+ in recovery from addiction or experiencing mental health, trauma, or wellbeing challenges.
This post is open to male applicants only, in accordance with Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010, due to the therapeutic nature of the work.
Job Purpose
To plan, deliver and facilitate weekly men’s therapy sessions that promote recovery, wellbeing and emotional growth. The role supports men to explore their experiences safely, develop insight and resilience and build a supportive peer community within the wider recovery network.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Facilitate weekly men’s group therapy sessions using a variety of therapeutic approaches.
- Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships that support clients’ personal growth and recovery.
- Promote education and awareness around mental health, addiction and emotional wellbeing.
- Collaborate with colleagues, volunteers and community partners to deliver high-quality aftercare services.

- Explore creative and experiential approaches (e.g. walk-and-talk sessions, activity-based therapy), to enhance engagement and accessibility.

Person Specification
Essential:
- Qualification at Level 5 Diploma or Degree in Counselling, Psychotherapy or a related field.
- Membership (or eligibility) of a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP, NCPS).
- Experience facilitating groups and/or working with men’s wellbeing or recovery issues.
- Strong commitment to professional boundaries, confidentiality and ethical practice.
Desirable:
- Experience or interest in addiction recovery, trauma or community work.
- Openness to innovative approaches such as walk-and-talk therapy or activity-based sessions.
