We are pleased to launch our new online Family Programme, designed to support, educate and help improve the wellbeing of anyone who is affected by a loved one’s addiction. The sessions will be delivered by one of our highly experienced counsellors over one and a half days and the Family Programmes will be held monthly via video calling platform Zoom. The first online Family Programme will go ahead in October and we are happy to announce that spaces can now be booked!
Helping loved ones to navigate the challenges of addiction in the family
As a residential treatment centre for addiction and through working with our clients’ relatives, we know how massive the impact can be on those closest to the individual. Addiction doesn’t just affect the addicted person’s life but the wellbeing of family members suffers too. The prolonged stress, fear, worry and anger of watching the person change into someone else, listening to their lies, fearing the situations they might get themselves in, feeling disconnected and not knowing what to do for the best really takes its toll on the family.
It is only natural that loved ones want to help the person. Perhaps that’s by giving them money, providing a roof over their head, giving them food, paying fines or telling lies to protect the person and covering up for them. After all, if the person was suffering from any other illness you’d do anything you could to help them.
But all help given to the addicted person in whatever form is simply converted into more opportunity to continue the addiction. The addicted person’s world is okay because they are in denial and the people who love them are picking up the pieces all the time. Therefore, this enables the addiction to continue.
If this resonates with you then the Family Programme might change your life. It will provide you with a solid starting place to begin to heal and enabling behaviours is just one of the topics you will explore. Through attending one of our counsellor-led online Family Programmes, you will get to really understand addiction, understand the unhelpful patterns of behaviour you’re exhibiting, and very importantly, learn healthy behaviours. You will learn how to ‘let go’ and how to recover from the traumas of addiction in the family as well as what you can do to improve your own wellbeing.
The best help you can give your loved one is to seek help for yourself.
Format of the Online Family Programme
One of the Broadway Lodge counsellors leads the online Family Programme via Zoom, so providing you have internet access and a device to be able to engage in video call, you can access our Family Programme from any location. It is delivered over the course of one and a half days in two separate sessions.
The first session is delivered over a full day (9.30am – 4.30pm) and is designed to be educational. The second session held one week later lasts half a day (9.30am – 12.30pm). The one week gap is provided to give you the time and space to fully digest all of the guidance, advice and tools you learned the week prior. The second session will be interactive whereby the counsellor will lead a group therapy session involving all participants and there will be an hour to reflect and conclude the Family Programme you’ve engaged in at the end.
Session 1 Agenda (9.30am – 4.30pm)
- Step 1 & The Family Illness
- Drama Triangle
- Feelings Check
Session 2 Agenda (9.30am – 12.30pm)
- Group Therapy
- Reflective Practice
Each Family Programme will be attended virtually (via Zoom) by up to ten people and by joining with others in the experience, you will feel less alone and the small group can provide encouragement and support to each other. Although there will be lots of opportunities to ask questions during the sessions, you can speak as much or as little as you’d like (although we encourage being open to speaking in the second session for group therapy in order to get the maximum benefit from it).
Price & How to Book
The total price of the Family Programme is £158 for one attendee. The Online Family Programme can be booked and paid for on Eventbrite. There is one family programme per month and places can currently be booked for sessions being held until the end of the year. If you are interested in booking on to any of the following Family Programmes, please click on the dates you are interested in and you will be taken to the Eventbrite listing where you can read further details about the sessions, see our refund policy and book.
If you decide that you’d like to join, please ensure that you will be available to engage with both session one (full day) and session two (half day), held a week apart. After you’ve booked you will receive a welcome email and we will send you a literature pack in the post to support the two sessions you will attend.
