Barcley is a former client who battled the illness of addiction for 12 long years. Since leaving primary and secondary treatment at Broadway Lodge in August 2009, his life has turned around. He now wants to give something back and is due to run the York Marathon on Sunday 14th October 2018 and is doing so to kindly raise money for Broadway Lodge.

Following treatment, Barcley took a brave and positive step and moved to a new city with no family or friends and he started working again. During the 4 years spent in Bristol, Barcley blossomed and grew as a person, finding new interests and hobbies which included running. Now married and living in North East Somerset, he is on a gruelling training programme to complete the marathon in a few weeks.

He states on his JustGiving fundraising page “I site the foundation I gained at Broadway Lodge as the bed rock on which my life now rests. To run the marathon to raise funds and awareness for Broadway Lodge seems a natural thing for me to do. Any money I raise that may help another person get the support they need is well worth 26.2 miles of my own blood sweat and tears.”

His goal is to complete the 26.2 miles in less than 4 hours, although we consider even attempting a marathon a massive achievement, regardless of completion time!

His 26 week training programme which incorporated three rest days per week, was severely hampered through numerous events, forcing him to cut the programme to 12 weeks with only one rest day each week.

Today marks the 5th week of out of the 12 week programme which will involve running 58km over 6 days. If you’d like to support Barcley to complete the Marathon and in turn, help Broadway Lodge change the lives of clients, please visit his JustGiving page here.
